One of the most rewarding aspects of adopting a rescue dog is the simple fact that you are giving a deserving animal a new home.

ADOPTING A RESCUE GERMAN SHEPHERD – WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?

Many dogs end up in rescue because of circumstances beyond their control
- relationship breakdown
- death in the family
- illness
- family moving
- change in family circumstances
- lack of time
- lack of training
- behavioural issues
Most dogs will need some level of training or re-training
Most dogs will need some level of training or re-training to learn how to fit into their new household and become your beloved companion. Adopting is a long term commitment and you need to be confident you can give your new family member the time and love they deserve.
ASSESSMENT
All our rescue dogs are assessed prior to coming to GSRV so that we are as informed as possible about their temperament and health. All our dogs are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and have any other medical issues resolved before adoption.
"foster to adopt"
Our “Foster to Adopt” program is designed to limit the anxiety of dogs having multiple moves. When possible, we place dogs directly into their planned forever home, avoiding the need for foster care prior to permanent rehoming. Having the dog live in your home with your family and incorporating them into your lifestyle will help you get to know each other properly. Our ‘Foster to Adopt’ period is 28 days however, if a solid fit is established before that time, adoption can be finalised earlier.
WE ARE HERE TO HELP!
We are here to help! Our Behaviourist supports families through the process of settling their dog into its new environment during the trial period but it does not end there – we are always available to help.
Dogs for adoption

If there are no dogs showing as available for adoption, we have been able to find homes for all current dogs with people on our waiting list. If you would like to apply without a specific dog in mind, please fill in an Adoption Application so that we can add you to our list and begin searching for your new family member.
